What is the purpose of education?

A new conversation series, produced by Luminary Labs, considers what’s “Worth Learning.”

Like many sectors and industries, education is facing increased pressure and uncertainty across multiple fronts. Battles over curriculum and funding are ongoing, AI-driven technology advancements are upending both education models and career paths, and demographic shifts are impacting student enrollment. This moment of disruption has prompted many conversations about how education should evolve — but there’s little consensus around what and why students should actually learn.

All of these questions have been central to Luminary Labs’ engagements in the future of work and education for more than a decade, and now is the perfect moment to explore how experts would answer one simple but foundational question: “What is the purpose of education?”

That’s the question at the center of Worth Learning, a conversation series produced by Luminary Labs. Hosted by Luminary Labs’ Harrison Diskin and America Succeeds’ Michael Crawford, the new podcast explores the fundamental question of why we’re educating in the first place.

In the series introduction, Harrison and Michael share why this question matters and what listeners can expect from Worth Learning: six conversations, with voices from policy, advocacy, philanthropy, and beyond — each exploring education’s purpose from different angles.
