Elevating Veterans’ experiences at Behavioral Health Tech

As BHT’s Veterans Week Partner, Luminary Labs will support programming focused on Veterans’ mental health.

We’re honored to announce that Behavioral Health Tech has named Luminary Labs as the official Veterans Week Partner for its 2025 conference. The annual conference — November 11-13 in San Diego — convenes stakeholders who are committed to making behavioral health more accessible and impactful. This year’s event opens on Veterans Day, offering a moment of national reflection and underscoring the importance of investing in the mental health and well-being of those who have served.

Why Veterans’ mental healthcare matters

Through our work on Mission Daybreak and our relationships with the Veteran community, we’ve gained valuable insights into the complexities — and deep sense of fulfillment — of serving those who have served. We’ve learned that effective behavioral health support requires an understanding of Veterans’ lived experiences, recognition of their diverse needs, and approaches that honor their service while addressing their unique circumstances.

Veterans are everywhere: More than 6% of the U.S. civilian population, nearly 16 million people, are military Veterans. Yet there’s often a significant gap between what Veterans actually need and what non-Veterans think they need.

Nearly all health organizations are already serving Veterans — whether they realize it or not. Veterans have substantial (and unique) mental health needs, and this culturally and geographically diverse population would benefit enormously from tailored and relevant behavioral healthcare options. By building awareness and embracing best practices, innovators can connect Veterans with care that improves outcomes and saves lives.

Our partnership with BHT

This partnership with Behavioral Health Tech — the largest community of behavioral health stakeholders expanding access to mental health, substance use, and intellectual and developmental disability services — will help us spotlight Veteran mental health through dedicated programming that centers Veterans’ voices.

As part of our partnership, we’re also supporting BHT’s give-back initiative benefiting a local nonprofit serving Veterans in the San Diego area. This program will offer conference attendees the opportunity to contribute beyond the walls of the event.

A content series to elevate Veterans’ voices

Over the next several months leading up to the conference, we’ll be exploring Veterans’ behavioral health needs with a multichannel content series.

  • Articles on the BHT blog will dive into key topics related to Veterans and behavioral health, sharing research and expert insights.
  • Interviews on BHT’s Expanding Access podcast will uncover the gap between what Veterans actually need and what the healthcare industry thinks they need.
  • A panel discussion at the BHT conference will bring together Veterans and non-Veterans to share data, insights, and hard-won lessons about accelerating innovative solutions that address the complex needs of Veterans and other subpopulations with distinct experiences.

Veterans have long been at the forefront of advancing healthcare in America. They’ve contributed to medical innovations, healthcare delivery models, and care approaches that benefit all Americans. Now the behavioral health community has an opportunity to ensure that Veterans receive the same level of innovative, effective care they’ve helped create for others. And when innovators find more effective ways to serve Veterans, they can learn from those experiences to create better solutions for everyone.
