The Single Shield Prize is an $80+ million competition to advance single-administration vaccine platforms for pandemic influenza A(H5N1).

Pandemic influenza A(H5N1) remains a serious public health threat. Currently-approved A(H5N1) vaccines — and many other vaccines for viral diseases — require two or more doses, making it harder to slow disease spread during an outbreak.

This month, the Single Shield Prize officially opened for submissions. Designed and administered by Luminary Labs, this $80+ million prize seeks to advance single-administration vaccine platforms for pandemic influenza A(H5N1) — supporting a future where disease protection can be faster and more accessible. The Concept Stage invites eligible innovators to submit concept papers by January 15, 2027.

The Single Shield Prize calls for innovative solutions enabling the development of vaccines that could provide protection in only one visit. Eligible vaccine developers and researchers, biotech companies, and other innovators developing technologies for single-administration pandemic influenza A(H5N1) vaccines can compete for financial awards, technical support, and networking opportunities to advance their work.
