2010 mHealth Summit debrief

2010 mHealth Summit debrief

Luminary Labs went to the mHealth Summit, so you don’t have to. Enjoy the debrief.

The 2010 mHealth Summit took place during November 8-10th at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

The Summit was organized by the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health and the mHealth Alliance.  The event brought together participants from both public and private sectors from both domestic and international locations.

In addition to highlighting key conversations, we have identified 4 common themes:

  • Systems, integration and partnerships. mHealth is a space where we can expect strange bedfellows, as well as the development of systems that are stronger than the sum of its parts.
  • Lack of data surrounding the use of technology in healthcare. Technology  can be found everywhere in health. And yet there are very few statistically significant studies regarding the impact of technology on health outcome. This is a major opportunity for evidence-based medicine.
  • Technology is not a panacea. Technology must be applied in concert with other changes throughout the value chain.
  • Changing healthcare is about changing behavior. Positive patient outcome is contingent upon behavioral changes from all healthcare system participants: patients, providers, institutions, etc.
