Live from the White House: FLOTUS announces the Reach Higher Challenge

In May, the U.S. Department of Education announced Ed Prizes, a series of prize competitions to prepare students for a more competitive world. Ed Prizes, as well as the first two challenges, will be powered by Luminary Labs’ open innovation platform, Luminary Lightbox™.

Yesterday, the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, announced one of these prize competitions, the Reach Higher Career App Challenge, at an official White House gathering, Celebrating Innovations in Career and Technical Training (CTE).

The Challenge, which will launch later this summer, will call upon innovators to submit prototype mobile applications to improve access to information about CTE, help students navigate education and career pathways, and increase the capacity of career counselors to serve students.

The First Lady put out this call to the tech community:

“Put your heads together to design apps that will help students connect with their dreams.”

We were thrilled to join the First Lady, educators, and students for this momentous event and look forward to the launch of open submissions in just a few weeks.
