How can a global organization restructure for a digital transformation?

Luminary Labs worked with a leading pharma organization to catalyze a company-wide digital transformation, building the strategy, designing the roadmap, and staffing the team to launch a Global Digital Center of Excellence.

Designing the Vision & Roadmap

Recognizing the need for a global focus on digital technology, a life sciences company approached Luminary Labs to create the framework, launch strategy and staffing plan for a global digital strategy group.  Conducting a top level audit of existing assets and programs, a business case was built to secure funding while collaborating with global leadership to engage key stakeholders, prioritize business needs, and establish a baseline for digital knowledge and competencies.

Identifying priority activities based on individual country and business unit needs, lean and agile means were recommended to operationalize new programs, establishing a structure for accelerating experiments in web, mobile, social, content, and data across regions and at scale.

Operationalization and Launch

Beginning with team leadership recruitment, a detailed operational structure and plan was developed, which included stage gates, a measurement toolkit, and organizational roles and responsibilities to manifest the COE as a fully functioning unit.

Supporting the team through launch, formal storytelling documents conveyed strategy, themes and actions, while helping position the team and its members for both internal and industry audiences.

The Impact

Team leadership has since gained external validation through industry accolades and awards for its best of breed digital program.  Hailed as a success internally, the digital vision has extended across the wider organization, and Luminary Labs has since gone on to develop content, partnership, and education strategies for the global business unit.
